REVIEW OF PROJECT

1. Briefly describe the final outcome of your project and the progress you have made, and if applicable how it differs from your original Project Proposal:

The final outcome of my project is a website about wearable technology. Within the website, I have one videos, two features and two images that are part of the features. In addition, I have links to social medias related to the website, an Amazon widget that shows wearable technology products as well as books that are available on Amazon. I also included links to other webpages that talk about wearable technology

The part that differs from my original project is that initially, I had a plan of printing a 3D dress for a photoshoot or video. That wasn’t possible in the end because the planning, development and printing of a 3D dress would be very long and expensive due to the amount of details and the materials needed.

2. What methods have you used to show how your learning has effected your project eg FMP Blog/ FMP Plan/ sketchbooks etc, and how has this helped with development of your work:

I mainly used my sketchbooks to record my physical work like, notes, images, interviews and objects I acquire during the process. I used my blog to record what I’ve done , how and what else needed to be done. It was quite useful, because my theme is very technical and large, so keeping track of the details was very important. By doing that, I could have a clear view of my ideas and how I wanted my final outcome to be. I used my FMP plan a lot at the beginning of the project to follow my plan and keep me organised and up to date. But as my project went on, some changes happened, so keeping track through a blog and sketchbooks was more helpful.

3. List the targets met (from the original FMP Plan and any that were added later):

Website.

Features.
Images
Videos.

4. Reflecting on your overall final major project, please discuss any developments which have contributed to the final outcome:

Definitely doing interviews with professionals and going to events helped me a lot with my final outcome as well as reading different media sources and understanding how they talk. It made me better at writing about it and working on it.

5. Please state what advice you received from others during your FMP, and discuss what you found particularly useful: you should refer to group reviews, one-to-one tutorials and feedback from evaluation groups

I’ve received quite a lot of advice during my project, from all my tutors and colleagues. One-to-one tutorials were a lot more helpful in terms of explaining my theme and how I wanted things to look like. I got good advice about expanding my research on layouts, logos and the visuals of the page, some fashion layouts might not adjust well for technology and vice versa. That made my website more authentic. I also got advice about my readership and how they would react to my page and my content.

That was important to me to see how I could improve and always think about my users and their experience when visiting my website.

6. Key points to take away – things to change about my approach (give at least 2) eg improve time management, what skills you have developed and how this will affect your future course/career and things to continue doing and to build on (give at least 2). What are you going to do next year? (NOTE – you may find it useful to refer to this document at the beginning of your next self managed project.)

1) Things to change about my approach:

• Improve my time management
• Avoid trying not to be overload with work and focus on the main thing.I tend to try a do loads of stuff at the same time and it’s confusing.

2) What skills you have developed and how this will affect your future course/career and things to continue doing and to build on.

• I learned a lot about web design and graphic design and how to create a website properly. That will add to my skills, because now I know how to make a real live webpage, so I can even follow a web design path if I could.
• I will definitely continuing studying web design and graphic design and ux design. I intent to continuing my website about wearables as well as my research on the matter.

3) What are you going to do next year?

• I will find a job either in fashion or design areas as well as continuing my studies on Graphic Design, Web Design and UX Design. I truly became very passionate about these areas and I tend to apply them to my fashion skills. I plan to be good enough to freelance someday.

• I will continuing developing my website and working to turn it into a proper source of information.

FINAL OUTCOME - WEBSITE

>> SEAMDE <<

So now I finished my project, my website is complete, I have 5 categories, a slideshow, a sidebar, a footer and a couple of widgets. Also, I created a Facebook page and a Twitter page so the readers could have access to other links. I'm quite proud that I managed to create a website, even though parts are not as I initially planned but it was a good process and I learned a lot. I'll continuing working on this website in the future, I'll continue to developed and work harder, specially on the parts that are not as I wanted to be.

FINAL OUTCOME - IMAGES

- SOCIAL MEDIA

To go with the website I've created a Facebook page and a Twitter as well. The reason I did that it's because I'll use the feeds to share links from other sources - fashion, technology and "neutral" - so you can have one only source of everything. Twitter and Facebook are the main ones so initially they are the first option. I have a plan of adding a Pinterest and an Instagram accounts later on.

>>Twitter<<

I used the same image for both to create an "identity" and the same profile image to create a brand, so if you go to the Twitter page you will know this is SEAMDE and same feeling for the Facebook. My plan is to RT content from Twitter on Twitter and do the same with Facebook. I'll also have different sources as well. In the end it will be a bit hard to have two different contents, but I'll try not to repeat the same things everywhere. Or showing in different ways.

2) EDITING - WEBSITE

- Click on the link -

>> SEAMDE <<

I had a problem with the website, I had all the plans to create the website myself and even started the coding process on Dreamweaver. But I wanted my categories to link to every single feature I had on the website, that's when things became confusing. So I went to Ravensbourne and I tried to find a teacher that knew how to use Dreamweaver to help me, I found a teacher and explained to him my problem and that I had the option to create with Wordpress but that I was saving this option to the last. So after a hour talk he suggested me to go to Wordpress because I would need to create a template page and add PHP to it, but I don't know PHP yet and I didn't have hours available to watch PHP on lynda.com. So I had to take my desperate measure and create my website with Wordpress. I bought a Premium Theme, a domain, a custom domain and changed it as I pleased, it was a lot faster, specially because I knew how to use it. But I won't be defeated and I'll learn PHP in the future.

I picked the theme Zuki because is a flexible layout and adaptable to other devices, something I was particularly interested when creating my design. Then I changed the logo, the navigation bar, and created pages for the event and a front page so every feature with a particular tag could be add to that.

After that was adding the content, the images and the text. I created a "welcome" feature where I talked about the website and what the mission is and what we thing about wearable technology, etc. Adding the image with the hands together and the collage. The collage is the main image, as soon as you open the website, that is the first feature you see. Then following to the event page, you have an image with the name of the event and the date, if you click on the image it will take you straight to the eventbrite's page.

This is the homepage, with the logo, navigation bar and full-width slideshow with the main articles. This theme allows me to put quotes, a sidebar and smaller articles under the slideshow, which is good because I can play around with the content and how I display it. On the sidebar I'm putting a Twitter feed, a Facebook page and Amazon widget. Occasionally a quote about something.

This is the events page. Big pink squares with the name and the date on the side. The order is chronological and if you click on the image it goes straight to the Eventbrite's page of that particular event. I will test having smaller squares with the name and date. I put big because of the names. But I can do something about it. Having the main information and then the link.

This is the feature page, an image on the top with a big heading and the author right down below, and then the feature. On the bottom we have date, the categories and tags. Below that we have a "related" widget with some other posts that might be interesting and share buttons.

The footer is all about quick information so when you go to the bottom of the website you don't have to go all the way to the top to check the navigation bar for example. Here I also put recent posts, a quick list of events happening during the current month so you don't have to go to the events page if you reach this part of the page, a menu and links to other good websites about wearable technology.

1) EDITING IMAGES

For the images, I wanted to give the idea of collaboration, partnership and coming together. So in my head, what's the best to express that than two hands shaking? When you shake some else's hand you agree with them, you talk to them and you create a bond. You don't shake hands to fight with someone. So I developed a theme that two hands shaking, one represents the fashion hand wearing gold rings and a bracelet (one or more) and a technology hand wearing silver rings and a Jawbone. They shake and hold each other.

I used Lightroom and Photoshop to edit the images. With Lightroom I edited the Exposure, highlights and blacks. I tried not to but loads of contrast and took the saturation down a little bit. I like to use Lightroom to work on the single image and then put into Photoshop to clean the rest. I cleaned all the images I did and picked the best ones, some of them were very dark or after I edited it looked edited. I like to have the images to look natural even though they are not.

I started with this one because I thought it truly meant union and coming together, collaboration. I liked that the background was already white, so cleaning would not be a problem. My first step was cleaning every disturbance around the hands, cleaning some paper marks or shadow caused by them. Being really careful not to cut anything that I shouldn't.

This one in particular I liked how the hands are and that you can see every single detail of the hand and the jewellery. I wanted to use this image as the main image of the social media profiles. Until I worked a better picture, that is. But I thought this expressed everything that my website is about. Two hands coming together and making the difference. I'm not so sure if people will understand that one hand is fashion and the other is technology, but even though they don't get it, it's an image that relates to the concept of the website.

This image was different, even though it's a handshake and it expresses quite the same thing, it's not as strong as the first one. I did the same thing with this one, I cleaned the background and cleaned everything around the hands. But this picture was a bit harder then the first one because there was a shadow around the hands, so I was really careful not to cut part of the hand that I shouldn't. The image was crisp and you can see the details but the concept was not effective I think.

After deciding the image I wanted to use, it was time for me to do some collages and retouching. I started by putting the hands in sequence together and then multiplying them and putting them face to face. So it could create a form, a form of a seam. As if the hands were coming out of each other again and again. The pink background wasn't a first option, but it happened during the experiment. I was initially thinking about having a white background, but it looked a bit boring and simple. So I added pink and I instantly liked. It was a colour that matched the orange of the Jawbone as well as the blue of the other bracelet.

I've decided to use them as images for my features on the website and as profile pictures for the social media links.

WEEK 8

I've done my videos, images and decided which prototype I'm going to use. So week 8 is all about editing, writing my features and putting everything together into my website so everything can be organised nicely. Now it's time to finalise the website, create the pages and get the events happening in the near future. Creating the social media links and using it, following the right people and sharing the main information.

1) Features

2) Images

3) Website

2) FEATURES

I'll have 2 features on my website (at least for now) and one of them is going to be the "welcome" feature, talking about wearables, my website and the point of view of the website. I want this feature to be big and have an impact. It's the first feature, so it should be big and bold, with important words and valuable point of view of SEAMDE. Nothing should left out. It's more of a "reflection" of everything I've read during this project and the conclusions I've come up with. I read loads from fashion and technology and "neutral" publications to have my own opinion and point of view. That is what this first post is all about.

The second feature is about how we do things there, how we plan to talk about wearables, introduce the website in more depth, tell our plans for the future and what we expect. I think it's important to show what makes our website different then the others and tell how we are handling things there. Otherwise it looks like just another website about technology or wearable technology, and this is not what it is planned to be.

I've decided to start my website with this two features just to present the website to the world and see how the public responds to the content and then develop a strategy with the writing. Specially so they can go to the twitter and Facebook expecting to find the content that we stated and know exactly what to do. Both posts are going to be featured inside all categories (except events page), so if you go to the page is there and you won't have any doubts about anything.

WEEK 7

Even though I'm still learning the softwares, I've decided to write my features, plan my images, so I won't be late on the process. My initial plan was to have more but I'll have three features, two videos and 4 images to be used with the features. I've decided not to have videos at this point because I think I wouldn't have time to produce quality video in time, as I'm learning softwares and keeping track of everything I'm doing. I really wanted to do it, but I rather not do it now than have a crappy video.

So this week, my goal is to plan and organise everything for:

1) Features

3) Images

WEEK 6

Week 6 is more focused on learning the softwares I need to create my website, I'm currently learning html, css and java via lynda.com and practicing so it can go faster. I also downloaded wordpress.org package in case I need a second option. I already have my safe option, but I don't intent to use it until I extremely need it.

It is harder then I thought and it's easier as well. The structure of the code is quite simple, but when you mix the 3 together it's confusing and if you don't know what you're doing, it can go wrong as well.

So far is going good, I'm still on schedule and I'm still working on my layout and how to make things work. Also, I'm writing my features and organising the type of articles I want to write.

- note on the web designer

Initially, I was planning to pay a web designer to create my website. I don't have strong skills when it come to web design softwares, such as Dreamweaver. What I do know is to create a blog with Wordpress. I know how to get a ready template and change it the way I want it to look like, but for my website I was planning to do a bit more. So I've contacted a couple of web designers to research some prices and they were more expensive than I was planning and could afford. So, for financial reasons, I was forced to leave this idea  behind and now I'm creating my own website. I have a problem and I need to break it down, to make it more manageable.

The problem?
I need a website in 3 weeks but I can't afford to pay someone to do it and I know how to change templates online but not how to create a brand new website from scratch.

Solution?
Use lynda.com to learn the basics of web design (html, css, java) and use it as well to finish learning Dreamweaver. I started learning a couple of months ago but didn't finish. I can still have 3 weeks to do it. If I focus my first week on learning everything I can use my two weeks left to work on it. So first I should learn the language - html, css, java - there are loads of videos at lynda.com, then I go to Dreamweaver, learn how to do everything there. Create my layout with Photoshop and transfer to Dreamweaver and add the functions I need.

What if it doesn't work?
I go to wordpress.com and create a website, using their Premium themes, buying a domain and changing everything that I need to make a website look good. I need to find a theme that is adaptable to a full-width so I can have a slideshow or similar, I need a good navigation bar (no menu that you need to click on anything). Everything must the there to easy click. A sidebar with all the content that is secondary and a footer.

2) USER EXPERIENCE

The user is very important for me, so a design that is really cool for me, might be a total nightmare to someone else out there, so that's why I really need to pay attention to how I design my pages. I want them to be:

1) Easy to use so you can do everything you intend to do.
2) Clean, so all the informations are organised.
3) Every page should have a clear message, so you know what you're doing at that particular page.
4) Clean images with clean text
5) With every button leading to where it suppose to.

With that in mind, I'm adapting my layout to a more "square" theme. In my head I was going a bit nuts and I was using the layout in a way that I thought it could make my pages polluted and confusing. I increased the white space and add a sidebar, something I wasn't planning at all at any point. But it's important to have the main information that needs to be there on every page. Maybe having the calendar there with a twitter feed and maybe a widget with a link to Amazon store.

I want my website to be a main source for wearables and not only because of the content but because of the amount of information about it. If you ever need anything about wearable you would go first to my site, so my informations need to be put in a way that is unclear.

With that being said, I'm playing with a 2 column styles or 3 columns and a footer. Every part is important on their on way. The sidebar contains informations such as calendars, twitter/facebook feed or any good and useful content. The footer must contain the icons of social media links or maybe some "feed" links and contact as well. The main area would be where the features are in order or post. So the main ones are first (or inside a slideshow).

1) PROTOTYPE

Today I did more prototypes for the page, playing with the design and how features are organised on the page. Initially, I was planning to have a slideshow, now I have only features. I took the same approach with the layout, I went and checked seam design and based the design on it.

I created the design for 3 pages: the homepage, the feature page and events page. The homapage would have have features organised chronologically and a Twitter feed from seamde twitter page with tweets from all over the web about wearable technology, fashion and technology. This twitter feed is suppose to be the magnet of everything on the web about wearable technology from all sorts of sources. It's a less edited content. The feature page would have the articles and a sidebar with possibly: the twitter feed, useful links related to the theme of the article or other older articles. I haven't made my mind yet either if I want the sidebar or not, I don't want the page to be polluted, so I will try it later. White background and simple layout. The events page would have  a calendar with the main events happening in London (initially) with: date+ name and link + where. So a person could click on the link and go straight to the event's webpage with no problem. The events page is where every event is, so if a person wants to know about what is going on around London and the world, they will go straight to it.

All pages would have access to the main page and also links to social media profiles. Which are initially: Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Instagram would come later, but it's not the top of priorities. In every page, the archive is also available and the categories are also available in case the person whats to switch to another category.

To create the layouts I used mainly illustrator and Photoshop, because they allow me to play around more with the images and fonts. The problem I have sometimes is  that when I want to add a different form (like a square for example) I think about the coding part and if it would be good for the user.

WEEK 5

I have a name, my logo and my layout are on track, so now it's time to find a web designer and do more prototypes for the design. I also need to plan my user experience and how the readers are going to travel around my page and how to make it better for them. It's all about creating the visuals of the pages. So I should do more research on graphic design and visual identity and how to display my images and my typography.

And combine that research with thinking about the user and how they are going to use my website and what they will get out of it, how they are going to get it and what it would be the best design.

1) Prototype

2) User Experience

- one note for categories

Before, I realised I had one category for fashion but not for technology. That would make my website one-sided. Because I have a Fashion category. So now, instead of having a "News" category I'll have technology. Why "news"? because every feature is a news and they are divided by the other categories on top, so there is no need for it. My goal is to work the news in a way that I can show fashion/technology or design that they need each other.

3) LAYOUT

Today I did more research on layout designs, but I went offline this time. I head to the library and got every book about layout, graphic design and web design. I checked them, photocopied them and studied them. I learned to be a bit bolder and try different structures than the usual old frameworks online. The challenge now is to find a good web designer to do the website for me. I went to illustrator and photoshop and created loads of different layouts.

I knew what I wanted, a simple design but with a twist. Something interesting that could pop up the attention of the reader. I checked different fonts and colours, because I'm a big Helvetica fan so it was good for me to try and check other fonts and how they would work with my layout. I changed the initial big slideshow and put more articles instead. My main inspiration was the Dazed website, so I went to others, like Purple Magazine, 032c and made my main colours: black, red and white.

It made my research more interesting I think and my work in creating the website more enjoyable because I was playing with different things and creating more. It was a good piece of advice. My design now is going to be better. I still struggle with finding the perfect design, but I know this is more me being picky then the actual work. I think I need to focus on the user experience and how they are going to use my website more than following my own creative objectives. It's important to keep in mind the user.

So, to go a bit deeper in to the user, I got books about UX design and user experience and how to create a website that is good for them to use. I wanted my website to be good and easy to access, so people would know what to do before I even tell them. That's my goal.

2) LOGO

Now that I have my name I can create my logo. For the logo I planned to use the design of a seam. So first thing I had to do was to research the different types of seams. I went online and start to look online for seams in technology and textiles. So I came across these:

I didn't know what to expect when I start researching the seams, I won't lie. But once I found these I realised I had loads of room to play around. The styles are quite different, so I went straight to Illustrator and started to apply the lines on different designs. None of them were instantly good of course but at least I felt in the right track. I did that because by playing with the lines, I could create something unique, innovative and interesting.

This is the first logo design I came up with:

I particularly liked this design because it was an accident. The original plan was the have a sequence of "xxxxxx" and that was a seam, but after using the "twirl tool" this came to life and I truly liked it so I left it like that. An accident that was good in the end. But that is not going to be the only one, I'll still keep playing with it.

1) NAME

After struggling with finding a name, I finally managed to find  a name that I found it suitable for my website: SEAMDE. How and why? I started by making 3 columns and writing every word that I knew it was related to fashion, technology and mixed the together, always checking for synonymous.

So after loads of different combinations, I came across the word "seam", which by definition is "the line where two or more layers of fabric are held together by stitches." It's a very important part of the foundation of clothes but furthermore is also part of technology. It's part of the "metalworking processes in which a sheet metal edge is rolled over onto itself" and also "seam is a web application framework developed by JBoss". So, perfect word right? Now, all I had to do was put it in the right way because "seam" in it's pure word is already taken online, so I needed to improvise. I created the variation "seamied" - in quick inspiration from "wired" - but when I showed to people they found quite hard to pronounce or were not sure how to say it. Then, I changed to "seamed" but still people found tricky to say the name. So I thought to write how we would say it, so "seamed". People found a bit better to say it and it was small, one word, not one-sided word that I was looking for.

WEEK 4

After struggling with my name, I finally found a good name and now it's time to focus on layout and logo.

1) Name

2) Logo

3) Layout

3) CATEGORIES

I've decided to have 6 categories on my website:

1) Health
Wearable technology in health and who is being affected and how as well as how fashion can help. Like t-shirts that can monitor your heartbeat or can tell the kind of illness you have. Gadgets that can help with balance or insulin problems.

2) Sports
Sports is a leading field when it comes to smart textiles. So this category will show how much fashion can benefit from it and the different types of wearables. As well as how sports can benefit from fashion's imagery and access to end user.

3) Fashion
One of the main parts of the website, how fashion should be open about wearables and why. How fashion can benefit from technology and improve from textiles to gadgets. Playing with 3D printing to smart textiles.

4) Events
Calendar with all major events happening in London (and world? not sure yet)

5) Videos
Videos of interviews an features.

6) News
All major news from the wearable technology world.
BUT every news should be used to express what the benefits and challenges are.

- Wearable Technologies Innovation Contest

I went to an event called "Wearable Technologies Innovation Contest" and it was basically a competition with different categories, including: wearable for kids, unlocking accessibility through wearables, hotel guest experience through wearables, sensor and tracking performance and plug and play for textiles wearables.

Through the day we listened to pitches of several different companies with different products and some of them were really interesting but others were absolutely terrible. Something that I realised is that a couple of them stated that they did market research but when I heard the definition of the product I question if people would actually wear that. So I'm not sure how their research worked.

It was quite an interesting day because I could talk with lot of different people about my project and about wearables and how they affect people's lives and what it would be the next thing for the market. It's funny to see how some of them don't even consider anything with fashion.

Once again, I met Michelle Hue from Made with Gloves and she introduced me to more people and I could hear her talk and discuss her product with other people, so it was a really good experience.

2)LAYOUT

Today I looked into types of layouts that I could use on my website. Just like the name, I also had a rule for layout: "it HAD to be simple and clean with a proper respect to white space". As a result, I went to Pinterest and collected a couple of images of the type of layout I wanted to use. I picked the ones I wanted and I realised that all of them had a huge amount of white space and different forms. I could play with forms and white space and make my text bigger and bolder with nice and colourful images. But at the same time I feel attract to ultra simple layouts with little text and extremely clean images, maybe I can play with both and mix them up. I can add forms and have white space, even though I prefer having great big images with simple text. I will experiment more with it.

I thought about a clean design with a slideshow covering the whole width of the page and then have the secondary features underneath it. A logo on top and categories right below. Maybe a sidebar with some feeds on it, but still experimenting with it.

But after some talk with my tutor he said my design was boring and that I should do more visual research on different layouts and styles. That my theme was really interesting but that I should find a way to use my imagery to attract the fashion community as well as the technology. That it should be bolder and classy at the same time, that I should think about having an identity, on every page so you can see clearly that it doesn't matter where you go it's the same. And that is what I'm doing next.

1) NAME

I was really struggling with finding a name, I got a hosting website that you can check if a domain is taken or not to see what is available or not. I left my initial plan of having a word for fashion and technology and started to focus on finding words that express link, bridge, connect. I asked help for my classmates several times and they came up with loads of different names like "smartsilk" "smartfiber" and I came up with "point of symmetry" which is "A special center point for certain kinds of symmetric figures or graphs". I was really sure about my decision to pick this name, but after some thinking and talk with my tutor, I've decided to not use it.

Then I came up with "cyberstyle", but that sounded like a teenager blog.So no. Until my tutor suggested me "smart stitch". I really liked this name, it was simple - even though it used 2 words and it was something I wasn't planning - and I could do a logo with both names (because they both have 5 letters). But my happiness was short because I soon found out it was already taken, so no, again.

I, then had to use my desperate measure and create a new word. But instead of going bunkers and picking a nonsense word, I decided to use an anagram with the words "fashion" and "technology". Several different combinations appeared "fichest", "hiontech" or "hiontec", "ftied" and I even tried to use it for "common ground" and created "commgrud". But after showing my colleagues, they found "commgrud" a bit too aggressive and that it rhymes with "grudge". So no, once again.

After that I started to make a list of all variations of names for fashion and technology again. maybe gain a different perspective. Also, I started using Thesaurus to look for synonymous and see a word that I could use.

What's next? I'll continuing researching words and look into elements in fashion and technology that connect things. See if there is anything that is similar.

WEEK 3

Week 3 of my Final Major Project and I still haven't got a name, a logo or a layout. Not good.

Measures must be taken.

So for this week, all my focus is going to be on:

1) My name

2) My layout

- Innovation Contest Wearable Technology

3) USEFUL INFORMATION

Today I decided the type of content I wanted to post on my website. My initial plan was to do a photoshoot with a wearable technology piece or something like LED lights. But now I've changed my mind. I think videos are a more useful way to expressing my message. So with that in mind, I went again out there to look for inspirations. That's when I came across the videos from Buzzfeed, Casey Neistat and The Fine Bros on Youtube. The way that they use information is brilliant. A very light and funny approach, and then I saw a video where they give a product to kids, adults and elderly and record their reactions to it.

That gave me an idea of doing the exact same thing on my website, but of course, with a different approach. I was going to pick one wearable device and give to one person to experiment for a day. After that they I was going to ask questions such as "would you actually buy this?" or "why do you think is useful? or if not, why?" to try to understand the end user. This could even head to future opportunities with small companies that want to advertise their product and put it out there.

Other videos I could use, go out on the streets and interview people about what they think wearable technology is or if they even know what it is. My goal here is to give the public a voice that is not usually heard. Companies always state that they do market research but honestly I don't believe it.

Other thing I would like to include on my website is a calendar with all the major wearable technology events happening and link to their webpage. So if the person wants to go to an event, the only thing they need to do is check my website, is all there. Event + link.

With all that being said, what I need to do now is organise the informations I want to write/record and select the main categories.

2) NAME

Today my goal was to research and plan the name of my website. I started by creating a rule. NOTHING with: CHIC, GIRL, FABULOUS/FAB or similar is allowed. I wanted the name to be simple, preferably with one word, effective and that could say it all without going around. So before the plan, I went to the internet and research names of existing websites of fashion, technology, wearable technology or electronics.

I did that so I could see what is out there, not repeat myself, see what is effective. What sounds like a teenage blog and what sounds like a good and professional website that is worth visiting and is worth being a source of information.

I had three options: have a name that is related to fashion + technology, have a name that is related to the main mission of the website or create a new inexistent word. I started with the first option and it not went well, one person that I interviewed suggested me something funny and clever like "talk to my shirt" - with that in mind I came up with "own your wrist" as a reference to the Apple Watch, but I quickly left the idea because I thought it wasn't good enough. Then I followed the path of thinking about  terminologies, maybe "style, fashion, "fash", electronics, "e-something" or maybe "cyber", "tronic", "smart". None of them sounded appealing to me, or sounded right and instant.

Then I started to play with my second option: thinking about the main goal of the website and think about something that links other things, or connect or bridge. The word bridge was in my head a lot, similar was the word "link". Then I thought, what about "The Linker"? After some research online I found out that a "linker" is a tool used to link part of a software to help it work. As a concept it was brilliant and it fit perfectly with what I wanted. A word that bring things together. So what was the problem? It's one-sided, a link is related to technology and using that justification, could lead me to contradict my own plan of being impartial. So no.

I found particularly hard to come up with a name, the problems are: finding an original name and finding something that is not already taken - biggest problem ever!

So, what to do? Well, I'll keep looking and applying my three options, I haven't used the third one because I wanted to be my "desperate" option, just in case I can't find anything else.
